As a mom, one of our top priorities is to raise happy and resilient kids who are equipped to face life’s challenges and succeed in their endeavors. While parenting is a constantly evolving journey, there are certain strategies that can help us along the way.

Here are some tips shared by experts for raising happy and resilient kids:

  1. Encourage Positive Self-Talk

One of the most important skills that kids can develop is the ability to talk to themselves in a positive way. Encourage your child to use words of encouragement and affirmation when they face challenges. This can help build their self-esteem and resilience. There are many techniques that are you can employ to help.

Children learn by example, so it’s important for us as parents to model positive self-talk in our own lives. Talk out loud about your own positive self-talk when you face challenges. For example, you might say, “I’m feeling nervous about this presentation, but I know I’ve prepared well and I’m going to do my best.”

Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool for encouraging positive self-talk in kids. When your child uses positive self-talk, make sure to acknowledge and praise them. For example, you might say, “I’m so proud of you for using positive self-talk when you were feeling scared about that test.” This teaches your child to not only feel that their achievements are important, but also that you are their support system and will always be in their corner.

With practice, hopefully this helps them understand the practical applications of problem-solving.

Setting limits on screen time, such as no more than two hours a day will allow them to take breaks and move around during screen time. It is our job as parents to set these limits and be present to make sure these breaks aren’t being used to engage in other screens.
